The situation is getting desparate and i am down to using a 14" monitor (NEC Multisync XE15).

The situation so far:
I have a IBM P260 monitor that is (according to specs) able to do upto 1600x1200@85Hz. About 6 months ago i started having problems with the image. It usually started with sides of the screen flickering and some times progressed to the whole screen shaking and going all wavy. THe problem got frequent enough that i turned the resolution down about couple of weeks back to 1028x768. THat seemed to fix the problem but today it came back with a vengence and the whole screen kept waving and flickering even at this lower rez. So i removed all the speakers that i had around the PC (i have Soundworks DTT 5.1). That didnt solve the problem. So i got my bros monitor (a no-name 17"). That one also had a bad start. The screen kept flickering and saying check signal cable (the screen wasnt blank like it when no cable is connceted but rather its was have a distorted view like satalite TV in a bad storm). So i ended up getting our spare monitor (the NEC) which so far has worked alright!

I have my monitor now hooked up to my bros PC while the 17" is hooked up to our spare PC. AGain sofar no problems but its early still. ANyone here have any ideas about what might be causing this? anyone know of any monitor/display devices specific forums that i could go to?

Thanks!

Sounds like there are likely EM problems with your room, power cables over head, power cables in the wall, etc etc..... Have you put your monitor on your brothers sys to see how it works?

working fine so far on my bros maching but thats not saying much since he doesnt use it much. I am gonna keep watching it for a while and see how it turns out. Thing that really threw me off was the fact that the 17" wouldnt work on my PC which would indicate something wrong with my PC (since the 17" worked fine on my bros PC). But then the 15" NEC works fine with me PC. /shrug

Is there a way to check fo EM in my room? like is there a EM tester or something? i would think that i would be very easy to build EM detector or something!
