DUCK AND COVER!!! 😀
Seriously, I have no idea why it would be whistling... Last time I checked, CRT's didn't have fans.

Well, believe it or not, if you have really good hearing, you can sometimes hear a sound at the 15Khz range. I sometimes get a whistling sound when I scroll on a web broswer, but it's never loud enough for me to notice too much. I think it's just part of the basic power operations of a CRT monitor

Gonna explode, take cover!
Seriously, that sounds scary, the first thing I'd do is send it back for a replacement. CRTs arent to be messed with. So just becareful. I hope someone else can help you out with this.

when a monitor makes a high pitch squeal it's one of 2 things either your refresh is too high or the flyback transformer is on it's way out.. shutting it off for a while it will go away as it cools down, but it more often then not comes back.. u may need to get it repaired...

Even besides that, I can hear any and all CRT's high-pitched sync freqs though, it's really darn annoying. I guess I can imagine what dogs must feel like when you blow a dog whistle. Guess I've always had somewhat sensitive hearing.
