Monitor versus big screen

Monitor: PC gaming dedicated, optimal for that - Acer XR342CK.

Or, use big screen for gaming as well as video. Cost savings on that, big size.

If there's no requirement pushing one or the other, anything to push either option?

Guessing the big size is more immersive and exciting while the smaller screen has top picture quality.
 
a TV can have awesome picture quality as well. I have been using TVs as a monitor for around 9 years or so. I could never go back to a monitor due to how much I love the bigger size. I currently use a 55" Samsung KS8500 4k and I've never seen a better picture while gaming and watching videos. Really is quite nice. So my vote goes for the bigger TV Vs a standard PC monitor.

/edit the only way I would consider a monitor is if I were competing online in games that required the very lowest lag. As in competition gameplay for money etc..I would then buy the largest gaming monitor with the best specs. But for for me the most competing I do is BF1 or a game like it and my Samsung is more than good enough.

I'm not a fan of TV's myself... I would not use it as the main screen, but I have used them as secondary monitors. Usually the picture quality is better on a monitor, but you can get crappy monitors too.

Gotta pick a good quality option for either route.
 
the only exception i would say is if your machine sits in a living room.

For example, LG makes a 55 inch 4k OLED. Something us desktop monitors wont see unless you double the price or more on a smaller scale.
 
for those of you with the 55in screens, how close are you sitting to them? On my gamer machine i am using a Sony HX800 42in TV. I sit ~2.5ft from the screen. I think a 55 would be too much at standard monitor distance. The 42 a nice size. I guess at that distance one would need a 2160p screen if at 55in screen size?
 
I sit about 5 ft back from my 55". Honestly I feel I could be closer, but then my theater seats might not fully extend.
 
I have a 70" I hook mine up to but only for certain things. Many PC games that aren't console ports don't have UI's/text/huds designed to be used so far away.
 
Another guy withe 55" Samsung (curved) and love it. I had a power cord that a CAT had almost unplugged, the Screen was having power issues, I was freaking out as I knew I could not go back to "normal" Monitors and dreaded spending that kind of coin again so soon, but I would have. I Came from a LG freesync 27" which is a great monitor, but 4K curved TV (opinion) blows it away. Yes when i spend my time looking for problems I can see them, but when I game I never notice them at all. The only issues i have had is crappy HDMI cables for 4K, and you need some horsepower to drive one at full rez and video cards cost some bucks .
 
If your setup allows you to sit far away enough from your TV then it's worthwhile. I was sitting waaay to close to my 55in OLED and my neck would cramp after an hour or so. It also wasn't really practical when I needed to do some kind of work on my computer. Ended up buying Dell's 27in G-Sync monitor over Black Friday.
 
I used to love gaming on my plasma because of the black levels, but now that I've been using a 144Hz g-sync monitor for a year, it is very difficult to switch back, especially with m/kb games.

Really want one of the OLEDs, but no way I'll be able to tolerate that input lag. Hopefully the 2017 model rumors about its reduction hold true. May just hold off for a 4k@120Hz, hopefully by 2018 with the new HDMI spec.

See I've never gamed on a gaming monitor so I can't even tell the difference with the input lag. I guess when my monitor comes next week we'll see what happens.
 
Feb 2007 - 42" Panasonic Plasma 1080i/720p
Nov 2008 - 47" LG LCD 1080p
Jan 2015 - 42" Sony LED 1080p

I could never go back to gaming on a small screen, except casual living room/gaming on the move tablet/mobile type stuff. The only reason I didn't go 4k in Jan 2015 was because of the whole 30hz and expense thing... low latency 1080p for low cost was the best option there.
