Monitor upgrade question

Im looking to upgrade my 28 inch HannsG monitor in the near future. Ive been thinking of getting a 32-42 inch HDTV for this.
What are your thought and/or experiences with running your pc thru a hdtv?

I don't like text or MMO's at 1080p on a large HDTV but for gaming it's good. Resolution is just too low at that size for text to be pleasant for me especially if you are sitting closer than your couch would be.

Generally it works fine with most newer TV's. Biggest issue is pixel pitch. And how much it affects you depends on screen size and how far away you'll sit. A 32" 1920x1080 screen won't be as sharp as a smaller screen with the same rez. Though 32" is pretty good and the optimal size when using an HDTV as a monitor that would sit on your desk.

Best way to know is to go to a store with a good return policy, buy a nice 32"+ 1080p screen and try it out. Wish I had a 32" 1080p TV so I could tell you my experience, but mine's only 1366x768 which sucks pretty bad.

The text on mine is just as good as that on any monitor (due to one of the settings Sharps have) but I do sit 4' away.

For my desk I would not want to use an HDTV as my primary monitor. Sitting ~8ft on my sofa using my Sony 46" as a monitor is great. Adjusting DPI to 125% makes icons and txt more readable, in IE I have my zoom set to 200% and reading webpages is fine.

Gaming is great as long as not a lot of txt is required to be read in games like Dragon age or Civ 5. The games usually don't support txt adjustments that make reading details of gameplay on a 50" screen from 8ft pleasant.
