For some odd reason my monitor keeps turning on (to a blank screen) and off whenever my computer is in standby mode. It doesn't do this when the computer's off. Anyone have any ideas as to why/how to fix?

While working on my computer, suddenly the monitor screen in turning blank..( just like switching off the monitor) at this point of time nothing works but every thing is on...
Even the RESET button dosent work... What i do is switch the power button off and then RESTART the computer again ....

Is there any problem with the motherboard or SMPS or the display card..

hate to piggy back this thread, but i am having a similar problem with my old monitor, 17" viewsonic crt.

a few weeks ago, it started waking itself at night, programmed to shut itself off after 10 mins idle. it was perfectly functional but refused to stay down if the computer was on. i figured it was a software issue, something i had running in the backround, but when i got my new LCD it stopped.

i have since sold it to a guy i know and he reported the same problem on his system and his son told me yesterday that while he was playing a game it just powered itself off, which it never did for me and hasn't done since. once he re-booted it was fine.

i re-installed the drivers on his system today so i'll see how that goes, but i wonder if it's an aging/dying monitor issue.

no, power mgmt doesn't fix it. tried setting it back and forth from 5 mins to 10 mins, same thing

No, all wake ons disabled, IIRC.

It also seems to be random time intervals between turning off and on (30s, 20s, 60s), although it's always 15s between on and off (monitor automatically turns off after 15s of no signal). So why is there a signal being sent in random intervals to the monitor in standby?
