Monitor turns off on 1280x1024 with Radeon 64 meg DDR with Viewsonic PF775 HELP!

I just formatted my hard drive and did a fresh install of Windows ME. Installed the card and set it up using the default drivers that came on the install CD. Set my desk top to 1280x1024 and everything is good. Went to ATI?s page and downloaded the latest drivers version 4.13.7072 (also tried 4.12.3056 officially supported), restart screen goes blank.

The monitor works fine in other resolutions including ones beyond 1280x1024 so it seems to be with that res only. I read a few threads in the Rage3d boards and there seem to be users that have this problem when using this res when going into games but not on the desktop. Anyone have any idea what?s going on here?

I am not 100% if this will work, but you can try:

the newer drivers, 7078, also found at rage3d's driver section.

get that one program (I forgot the name!) that lets you manually enter in the refresh rates at each resolution.

get a Radeon tweaker and see if it'll let you enter in the resolution/refresh.

well i fixed the problem installed a program called 1st QuickRes Light. lets you change res and refresh on the fly. a pretty nice program although i cant really say what it changed. I uninstalled it and am still able to run at 1280x1024, weird.

I am guessing it lowered your refresh rate at 1280, and uninstalling it would still leave the refresh at that. But the important thing is it's working. =)
