Monitor trouble

When I boot into linux my LCD comes up saying, "out of frequency" and shuts off. MY CRT doesnt do this, and I was wondering if it has to do with refresh rate or something else.

it is the refresh rate. Boot your pc using the CRT monitor and set the refresh rate to 60Hz

how would I go about doing that. I know very little about linux

What kind of linux are you running? version? is this your home or corp. machine?

im running fedora core 5, and it is my home computer. I wanted to use linux to escape from windows, but its too hard to mount things and I cant get the internet to work

Please use the CRT to change the setting. Shut down the PC after you change the setting and plug in the LCD (make sure the refresh rate is 60Hz, check your LCD manual)
