When I boot into linux my LCD comes up saying, "out of frequency" and shuts off. MY CRT doesnt do this, and I was wondering if it has to do with refresh rate or something else.

im running fedora core 5, and it is my home computer. I wanted to use linux to escape from windows, but its too hard to mount things and I cant get the internet to work

There is a tutorial for your OS and you should spend some time with it if you could. Also FYI they have the ver. 6 release if you are interested. Here is the quick link to your display setting Link
Please use the CRT to change the setting. Shut down the PC after you change the setting and plug in the LCD (make sure the refresh rate is 60Hz, check your LCD manual)
