monitor trouble

i have an extra gateway 17" flat screen monitor laying around my apt. its a nice monitor except after its on for about 10 minutes, it will just automatically go into what seems to be stand by mode. it does this even when im using the computer and im not letting it just sit there. im thinking its overheating or something. any idea what part could be faulty? should i just take it to a repair shop?

And your system monitor power settings aren't on? Right click destop ==> properties ==> screen saver ==> Monitor Power Settings ==> disable or lengthen any power saving features

no they are not on. not matter what system it is hooked up to, it does this. its gotta be overheating, or there is a faulty part.
