Monitor Trouble - Samsung 900DF 19" CRT

So I picked up this display monitor at Sams.......(I know, I know first mistake right?) and it worked fine in the store when I tested it. Now I got it home and about 20% of the time, I literally get a light blue shade to it. It's a Samsung 19" CRT - 900DF. I haven't found anything searching. It's like night and day. I've tuned it up using some programs, and I really like the looks of it for gaming/internet, videos, etc. But all of a sudden it flickers and turns blue.... Like, what should be white turns light blue. What is red on the screen almost looks greenish, etc. It's pretty annoying, but I got a really good deal on it, and it only happens a little of the time. So I'm planning on keeping it. But does anyone have any idea what this means. Refresh rate too high or something else perhaps. Has it just been on too long, like constant hours. I know these get abused in store by kids and such, but I'm not sure. I don't really have a clue....... because it works fine most of the time. TIA.

Edit: I wasn't sure if this had to go in tech forum or video. I figured I'd try this forum to make sure I'm not missing something stupid.

No idea on what could be wrong. I would return it to Sams and get a new one, they should warrenty it IMHO. The price you paid for it doesn't mean it shouldn't work right.

Well yeah, I *could* do that. However, it is a year old monitor that retailed for $ 175 - $ 200 I believe. And it was marked down to $ 130. So at that time, I got them to go down another 20% to $ 100. So I paid $ 100 out the door and then this stuff started happening. I called Samsung for the Warranty and it was no problem - its just that I have to pay shipping one way 😛, which happens to be $ 50. So that added $ 50 to the monitor right there. Anyway, I go back to the store and explain my situation and guilted them to giving me another $ 50 off as I wasn't planning on having problems.

So now I've got a black 19" CRT monitor for $ 50 bucks total....... (I know, I know, ya get what ya pay for). But I'm pretty happy. I just want to see if I can straighten this problem out. So back to the top.......

Sams still needs to feplace it as it is defective. If you prefer, you can call Samsung and they will send a prepaid pickup for it and ship you a new one.

Thanks for the response, Len.

Not to be argumentative, but I'm under the impression you are wrong on both counts 😀. Sams has told me that it is sold as a display model. That is that. It carries the same warranty as a brand new monitor - its just that you have to take it up with Samsung.

As for the 2nd part. I called Samsung. They will only pay shipping one way. I made a specific request already. Do you know something I don't?

Up again as I didn't see this response until today........

Other then double checking you monitor connections, cleaning them, and looking for bent/tweaked pins the only thing else would be to contact a local TV repair type and see what they think.

Good luck,
Bob

and looking for bent/tweaked pins

You know what? I decided to take another look (I though I remember seeing something strange the first day) and it almost looks like it is missing pins. That would do it eh? 😀 Is that fixable. Can you install a new cable on these things?

A TV repair type guy should be able to. There are large capacitators, I think, in here so I don't recommend doing it yourself, shocking times.

They paid both ways for me. I didn't ask, but that's what they offered. As for Sams, it seems to me that they should be responsible for replacing a defective unit, demo or not.
