Monitor switches...

I'm considering buying a monitor switch to share a monitor with 2 computers. I just want to get a cheap switch with just monitor ports (I don't mind having two sets of keyboards and mice on my desk).

Does anyone have experience with monitor switches? I'll probably be constantly switching back and forth between computers when I'm using both at the same time. Will switching back and forth constantly damage my monitor, and does it take time to switch? If this is going to be a problem, I'll probably end up spending around $100 on a decent 17" listed in the hot deals forum.

Thanks.

I've used KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse) switches quite a bit for my job. They work reasonably well..... but DEFINITELY buy a good one. Bad ones can introduce a lot of interference and "ghosting". Also make sure you have some semi-decent cables.

If you'll look around, some newer monitors can take two inputs (I know my Sony G420S can... but its a little more than $100). 🙂

And, yes, its great to do that. I do a lot of work at home, and its nice to "start" some work on one machine, but just switch to the other to browse while the other is running.

Good luck!
