So I'm looking into an early Christmas present for myself. I'd like a new monitor. My Viewsonic CRT has done me good for a number of years, but it's time to make the switch. I think the amount of time I spend gaming on my computer warrants buying one.

Problem is, I'm a poor bastard, and my technical knowledge is somewhat limited. I can't afford much, and I'm looking for some opinions and recommendations.

I'd like an LCD widescreen, 20.1 inches or perhaps even 22 inches if my buck could stretch that far. My goal is to shoot for around $300, give or take.

Let me know if you guys have any suggestions or thoughts on the matter.
 
I've always had good experiences with Samsung, and know several other people who feel the same.

If you're really wanting something good for the long-term, you may want to wait - I hear that OLED monitors are coming out (maybe sometime next year?). They're supposed to have more vibrant colors, while using less power and they're actually CHEAPER to produce!
