Hi im looking to spend under 300 on a new monitor preferably 17" or better.

any suggestions? just want some opinions beyond what i can find in specs.

thanks.

I HATE KDS. I had one, it crapped out, & they charged me an arm & a leg to get it replaced...within the year!

I've used Viewsonic & Samsung, both awesome. Sony's good as well, but prolly the most expensive. Stay away from MAG! Absolute garbage. NEC is also good.

I'm quite happy with my Samsung 700NF (goes up to 1600x1200 @ 76Hz). Great picture and it was only $309 (Canadian). My only complaint is that I can't seem to get the edges of my screen straight.... there are just so many adjustments you can make that it become confusing.

thanks for the tips.

I should add that it has to be able to do 1600x1200 @ >=75Hz

I know they say you should buy em from a retailer but i cant ever find anything but absolute garbage or very expensive. online is a huge selection of monitors that look good on paper that I dont see in stores.

Personally I think KDS monitors are very good monitors. I've had a VS195e die on me but they replaced it (it was 2 years old) without charge; I had to drive it over to their local distributor, but it's like 20 mins from my house. My friend has a KDS Avitron 19" monitor (trinitron) and it's got amazing picture quality. I'd look into a KDS 17" avitron; great picture quality and cheap (in price) too. One note is I'm not sure if the Avitron 17" does 1600X1200 ; I know the 19" does but not sure about the 17".

Been doing a lot of research on this. Trying to find a 19", came down to the Samsung 959 or 900 NF (apature grill), and then read the reviews on the LG Flatron 915FT Plus. It has a slot mask, it's exclusive to LG and is a combination of Apature grill and shadow mask technology, that allows for no tension lines accross the screen that all other trinitron tubes have. It also has received very good reviews. Has both VGA and BNC inputs. Has nice touch sensative buttons. And can be found for $300 (techonweb.com) or $340 with free shipping! at Buy.com if you buy 2 (that would make a nice dual monitor system).
Good luck...

Too bad I have to pay like 540 euro's (like $500) for this monitor here in Amsterdam.
