Monitor Shutting Off

My question is. When I have my computer running for a certain amount of time the monitor just shuts off and the green light goes yellow. I can only get the monitor to come back on if I restart the computer. I've tried another monitor, put in a new harddrive i had laying around, tested the RAM. I've checked to see if all fans are running and they seem to run fine. I've also checked all the power management options too. The last thing I am gonna check is switch out the video card. Has anyone else had a simliar problem?

Uses Windows XP Pro, 6800GT vid card, corsair memory.

I assume cable connection is tight & secure on both ends (PC and monitor itself)...first thing you should have checked is video card.

a different monitor doesn't have that problem?
does the borked monitor have the same problem on another pc?

Since the monitor's LED turns into amber and yet will turn back on when the system is re-started, this is most likely caused by the video card. Check the video card to make sure it is not overheating which causes it to shut down. make sure the HSF is still operational. You might want to try a different video card first. By the way, with the substituted monitor, did the problem persisted? If it did, you can conclude it's the video card probably overheating.
