Monitor shuts off

I need some help w/ this issue b/c I can't figure out what's going on.

My monitor will stop showing a normal screen and start to show random lines. The lines last for about 15 seconds. Then my monitor gives me the "no signal detected" message box and then shuts down. This happens when the computer is sitting idle, in screen saver, or while I am using it. There is no specific task or time inverval that causes this. It is an intermittent problem.

I opened up the case and checked to make sure all the fans were working and nothing was overheating, and everything looked normal (including video card).

After I get the lines, I have to reboot because the machine is effectively frozen. My case "looks" and "sounds" normal-- meaning that no odd lights are on and there are no odd sounds coming from the case. After reboot, windows doesn't show any errors or anything, it just looks like I shut down normally.

I'm thinking that my video card is going bad, but I'm hoping you guys can give me some more info.

If your monitor has on-screen displays accessible by front panel controls, you should be able to determine if the monitor is at fault. Simply doodle around with the OSD controls for a while with the PC turned off (or unplug the video connector if you wish). If the problem still occurs, it's the monitor.

I'd guess the problem lies with your video card, but this simple test should help isolate the faulty component. Also check the video cable and cable connections.

The on screen displays still function properly. All the connections are solid. Any additional suggestions? Nothing else about the machine is strange, no malfunctioning programs, etc..

Latest drivers, this problem showed up out of nowhere. Don't know the AGP speed, but it's a 64mb card.
