monitor screen shaking

i have a hitachi cm721f crt monitor. resolution is at 1152x864, rate at 75mhz, and worked fine for the first 6 months or so. not too long ago the screen started shaking at random times. it seems to happen more after i turn it on (after having it off for the night). its not distorting anything or making things unreadable, but its quite annoying that the screen is shaking. and yes, im sure its the picture, not the actual monitor that is moving around...

any suggestions? it seems intermittent, and eventually goes away after a couple minutes. but still, for the money i paid for it, it shouldnt be malfunctioning.

i would, but then it would shake my entire desk, and all the crap on it would fall off....

are u sure the refresh is at 75 still? The other day I reinstalled my system and in the desktop properties I set my refresh to 85hz but when I actaully used the butttons ON the monirot it would say 60hz...... which is VERY un acceptable I reinstalled the monitor drivers and it fixed the problem.

Try degossing it, and check if u have anything producing a magnetic field somewhat strong near it. Hitting it would be a good idea when ever i have problems it releaves stress and sometimes fixes stuff lol. How do u have a monitor run at 75MHz? That's damn fast... lol yeah u mean 75Hz

did you check for interference from speakers/stereo/cell phone etc? my cell phone especially makes my monitor go all wonky. i can even tell when i'm going to get a call because the monitor shakes a microsecond before the phone rings.

That sounds more like an interferrence problem than a faulty monitor. Did you recently move your monitor? What's on the other side of that wall behind/next to your monitor? I put a new microwave in the next room and found that when it was on, my monitor's image was shaking quite a bit. Powerlines can also cause problems. If you live in an apartment building you can also get interferrence from any appliances or electronic components your neighbor may be using at the moment. Try plugging it into a different power outlet and/or moving it to a different location in the room and see if the problem persists. You'd kick yourself if you spent good money on a new monitor only to find that it gets shakey as well - granted, some monitors are shielded better than others and will be less prone to interferrence. Just play around with it a bit before you go spend $$$.

My brother ran an air purifier in his room that caused my monitor to shake. Unplugged it and all was well. Sometimes changing outlets within a room doesn't help. Try turning off all electrical devices on that CIRCUIT of your house/apt. and see if the shaking subsides.

after a year of shaky monitor problems at my fathers house it ended up being a bad light switch that was located in his kitchen 3 rooms down, so good luck! Electrical problems can become a real pain in the butt, if you own a older house with older wiring, and always a good ground on your main circuit box helps a bunch. You could also try a UPS or a power filter.

Of course now that I've posted, it hasn't happened since. I will play around with anything in my apt that could cause the interference. It will probably end up being all the cell phone traffic in my apt (3 people, 3 cell phones...).
