Im running win2k, and in the advanced display properties under the monitor tab, im currently running @75htz refresh on a res of 1024x768. The picture tends to be a bit wobbly at this refresh (seems like interference, but speakers are sheilded), and worse as it is decreased. I dont have the option of setting a higher refresh unless i uncheck "hide rates monitor cannot display." If i do that, i can go up to 85htz, and the wobble stops. Will the "unsupported" refresh of 85htz damage my monitor in some way??

My monitor is a 17" EV700.

Thanks dudes.

Look up in the Monitor manual what it really supports (V-Sync)...
Did you install a driver for this monitor? Otherwise Win can't know about its displaying capabilities...

i did a quick search for the ev700 and got this review. the specifications are a recommended display of 1024x768 @85hz refresh...so you should be fine with this setting. as doctorweir mentioned, you probably didn't install the monitor driver so windows used its default driver.

I have a Gateway EV700 myself. According to the monitor manual, the EV700 supports up to 75Hz at 1024x768, and that's the resolution and vertical frequency I have my monitor set at. Maybe I have gotten so used to this refresh rate that I don't even notice the wobble.

EDIT: Does your EV700 exhibit a lot of geometric distortion? No matter what I do, I can't correct the bowing.

For the most part, the only problems i have had are the wobbling, and poor focus at times. It seems that when i go to a LAN party or something, the picture is more clear on my buddies' systems than mine. But it aint a big deal. Im running at 85htz now, so it seems okay.
