Monitor Refresh rate stuck at 60Hz with my new ATI card

My monitor is a 21" Sony G520 connected with a BNC cable in the analogue port on the video card and my second monitor is a 19" Samsung connected with digital cable and plugged in to digital port on video card (this is working fine).

I'm using the latest 4.12 catalyst drivers from ATI.

I understand why I can't change the refresh rate with BNC cable as my problem is the same as this guy had Link I tried what they suggested with no luck.

I never had a problem like this with my nvidia card.

I don't have an option to disable DDC in the control panel.
Opens Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Displays -> Monitor -> Uncheck Use DDC information.

You can then set your refresh rate manually.

If you disable the ati hotkey poller service the refresh rate override won't work. Otherwise it should..

Did you go to displays tab in ATI control panel, click where it says monitor just above the monitor pic and you can adjust the refresh rate override there,I use "same as desktop" since mine is set at 85H,btw I too have a BNC monitor and using the one in ATI control panel does work.

You could try installing your monitor drivers as well.

Megatomic is correct as well for normal desktop refresh rate, btw my suggestion is for gaming mode ,so you can run higher then the default 60Hz in gaming.

I'm having the same problems. The option to use DDC is checked but greyed out to not allow me to disable it. Every previous version of the drivers worked fine but the 4.12 keeps switching me back to 60 at any resolution. I also tried the forcerefresh utility with no luck.

Tonight I'm going to disconnect my KVM and plug directly into the monitor to see if I can get around it.

Is it greyed out after you change one of the values? (refresh or resolution)

I don't have an option to disable DDC in the control panel.

Did you try unchecking "Use Extended Display Identification Data (EDID)" and then picking the highest resolution and the highest refresh rate in the drop down boxes below? (monitor properties from the advanced view tree of CCC)

Also, I know that the property sheets and GUI have changed over the last few builds. I can't recall, but untill recently, you had to have the Control Panel installed along with CCC to access the advanced monitor property sheet with the DDC page, otherwise, right-clicking on the monitor icon in the Displays manager wouldn't bring up the property sheet. "If" your monitor properties is on the advanced view tree...this is not your problem.

If its not o the tree view, you'll need to install the Control Panel for Cat 4.12 along with CCC, then right-click on the monitor icon after its installed to access the advanced monitor property sheet, which will have the DDC settings.

I found that even though everything looked right, I had to uninstall the CCC version of the drivers and install the control panel version. Once I did that, everything worked fine. I don't have this problem with the 4.11 driver but I guess it's not that big of a deal.

All fixed, yippee!

I ended up uninstalling the catalyst control centre and drivers then I reinstalled just the control centre and drivers (4.12). Not as pretty as the CCC but hey, it all works sweet.

Thanks for all the help guys, I appreciate it.

I did the same thing with the 4.11 drivers for the exact same reason.

I just use Refresh Force to force my monitor to 85Hz (even though I had set it to that on my computer, the monitor wouldn't go to that refresh rate).

I forgot to say I was using 4.12s old control panel without CCC,I had the refresh rate problem stuck at 60Hz with the new CCC since 4.11s,went back to the good old control panel without the new bloated CCC and that fixed it.

I did read the way to do it was install the old control panel first and set the refresh rate etc... after that then install the new CCC, but I can`t confirm if the refresh rate works that way with the new CCC using BNC .

I had this same problem with CCC in 4.12's. The option was grayed out. I fooled with it for hours trying to figure out WTF was wrong. Finally, had to uninstall them and go back to the "normal, old" ati control panel (which I like better anyhow!).

I'm psychologically scarred from the Catalyst Control Center now... 🙁
