Alright, i sorta accidentaly f'ed up my old NEC FE700, so I need a new monitor now, plain & simple.

17" or 19" , must be flat screen CRT, no LCD's plz, price can't go over $500 cdn. I wouldnt mind going back to the NEC FE700, but im taking this opportunity to get some suggestions.

I can chose from
NEC,
Samsung,
Sony,
Viewsonic. Pretty any much any model from those. I plan to run in 1024x768x16 for most of the time.

Thanks in advance. :)

cheap and good:
NEC AS..F series
Samsung DF series

higher spec and inexpensive:
NEC FP series (don't get FE series, FP just costs little bit more.)
Samsung NF series

I won't consider Sony, Sony mon is "you don't get what you pay for",
the price you pay for Sony's mid-end model, you can get a NEC or Hitachi high-end model; the price you pay for Sony's low-end model, you can get NEC or Hitachi mid-end model.

I won't consider Viewsonic, her mon now is not so great as before, and the price is not so attractive comparing to NEC or Samsung now.
If you live in LA and you don't want to spend a lot to send mon back to manufacturer for service, Viewsonic is a good buy since she's in Walnut.
(Oh, you're in Canada, forget my last comment.)
