I haven't been paying attention to any new hardware in the last few years, but it's time to spend some money again! I'm looking for a new monitor, something with a native resolution of at least 1920x1080 and a minimum of 24". It will be for video and photo editing, graphic design and other professional multimedia uses so accurate color reproduction is important. I have a 27" LED Apple Cinema Display with my Mac Pro but looking for something a bit cheaper to plug my laptop into. Any suggestions? :)

There's very few 24" monitors that fit all those requirements. The only 2 I can think of that fit all of the above are the HP LP2475w (8-bit H-IPS panel) and the Dell 2407WFP (8-bit S-PVA panel). Both have 1920x1200 resolution. Google for reviews.

If you're doing video/photo editing, the extra 120 pixels in height is huge from 1080p, at least to me it was, as I do similar work. Programming, photo editing, web design, occasional video editing and lots of gaming. I bought a ~$200 1080p TN monitor from Dell (G2410) and was disgusted with it even after hours of adjustments. Never will I use TN panels again.

Of course you could go higher screen size with better panels but then you're easily flirting with/over $1000. Take a hard look at the HP, it's known to be the best "editing" monitor under a grand. B&H photo has some user reviews on it.

Dell U2412M or U2410M are good choices. Both are IPS panels, 1920x1200. The 2410 is older and a bit more expensive. It is a wide gamut display, whereas the 2412 is not. 2410 is CCFL backlit, and 2412 is LED backlit. Both offer good color accuracy, especially after calibration.

Thank you for the replies! So far the Asus PA246Q has my interest. What else should I look at in that $500 price range with similar features/specs?
