Monitor recomendations: LCD or CRT

My Sony G410 has been acting strange, and it's been out of warranty for about 1yr so I may need to start looking for a replacement.

The G410 is one the best 19in CRT's available so I don't want a down grade in quality whichever way I go LCD or CRT. I do some gaming but nothing heavy, UT2k4 and HL2 but most of my time is spent on the desktop.

I was looking at the 20in Dell LCDs; the UltraSharp 2001FP and UltraSharp 2005FPW for LCD candidates. If I go CRT it looks like it will be refurbished since the high end CRT market doesn?t seem to exist anymore...

Thoughts/suggestions.

I know a lot of ppl like the 2005fpw, but its a 20" Widescreen meaning it's only as tall as a 17" CRT. With those resolutions, text is gonna be smaller.

I recommend a Viewsonic VP191b or a Samsung 930B. The Viewsonic is the better of the 2 and is an 8-bit panel with 8ms time. The only problem is its 8 ms gray-to-gray while the Samsung (TN 6-bit) is 8 ms ISO, meaning the Samsung will run faster although both claim to be 8ms monitors. VP191 is a little hard to find though... $428 + tax at Dell last time I checked if you use the right coupons.

Yeah, I saw that it's tempting.

I'm assuming that if I game in non-widescreen resolutions there is an option to not distort or stretch the image?

hl2 should be able to play widescreen on the fpw, dont really know about regular resolutions because i play the games on my crt.

Those are both 1280x1024 monitors, I'm using 1600x1200 now I don't want to go down.

I don't mind the widescreen nature of the 2005FPW, in fact I prefer it assuming it's as good as everyone says it is.

1600x1200 calls for a 20" panel... I like the 2001 a lot but it's never as cheap as the 2005FPW =(

Yes, I'm in dilemma too. Looking for a LCD monitor with a res of 1600x1200 or higher and a response time of 12ms or better. Anything like that out there?
