My monitor keeps making this popping noise as it turns black and then returns to normal, usually fading back in from a larget picture back to normal. This just started recently and I cant think of anything I have done to this system that would make it start doing that. Is this a typical problem with monitors and if so what does it mean?

Thanks

That used to happen to my 17" KDS Trinitron monitor. I kept degaussing it and after a few months it went away. I'm not sure it will work on your monitor though so like tart said, you might want to RMA that sucker.

brand and model above

What I would compare it to is the "change resolution" noise and look... also sometimes it wont do it for a long time... I tried it on two different computers and same thing, so its not the puta or gcard.

changed resolutions and color qualities and it still does it

Typically issues like your mean bad PSU in the monitor. I know some people that have been able to fix this by ripping their monitor apart and swapping some PSU parts. If you have a scope / multimeter and the propensity for soldering, go ahead and try it.

Other than that, check out the PSU test here and then RMA that sucka.
