Monitor Question

Hey guys, I've been browsing the forums for a while and just got around to signing up. I've got a question regarding my Sony G520 21" monitor... Basically, when the monitor has been turned off (or the orange "standby" light comes on when the computer is turned off) for more than approx 15min, the picture looks bright and somewhat "washed out" when I turn it back on. Now, if the monitor has been on for a while (actually in use) and the computer/monitor is quickly restarted, the brightness remains the way it should be. If the monitor has been in use for a while, it seems as though the washed out effect slowly fades and it returns to its normal state. (This is done slowly enough that it would be almost impossible to notice.) I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what could be causing this or any suggestions. Thanks.

(BTW, if this doesn't belong in this forum -sorry... I've seen other monitor-related questions posted here in the past, so I assumed it would be all right.)

I'm not intimately familiar with that model, but if it uses a shadow mask (as opposed to an aperture grille), this is pretty normal. The mask changes size/shape very slightly with temperature differences (though newer monitors are much better than the old ones used to be), and they usually only look 'right' when they're warmed up.

It's an Trinitron (aperture grille) monitor. The monitor is probably only 3 years old... brought brand new. Thanks for the reply.
