Monitor problems

My monitor just got weird. Halfway through, my image goes up, vertically. It's a Dell CRT, secondhand, and it's my only monitor. What should I do?

HI Vegitto,
First , test you monitor by attaching it to a known good computer (ie. maybe a friends).
If the monitor tests good... then do some basic troubleshooting. You can use the charts at my website. Post back if you need more help. 🙂

PS-be sure to post back with what you find so everyone can benefit-thanks

I hooked it up to three different computers, and they all have a different video card, and still the same problem. I borrowed a monitor from a friend for testing, and the image was perfect.

Hi again Vegitto,
Sorry to hear it. 🙁
If you hooked up a known good monitor to your computer & it worked fine AND if you hooked up your monitor to another computer & it still crapped out..then..
Yup, it's almost certainly toasted. : ( 🙁

Hi again Vegitto,
You might try searching the forum(s) for used equipment. Or borrow a monitor from your friend. From what you describe I'm 99% sure your current monitor is beyond repair..but maybe you can get a TV repair shop to give you a free estimate. TV repair shops do most major repairs for computer shops these days.
Good Luck

They all charge money for looking at it. I don't have any experience with monitors, so is it safe for me to open the housing and take a look? Maybe there's something stuck in something or something 😛.

Hey Vegitto,
re:

NO !
NO ! NO !
NO ! NO ! NO !..............................................NO !

Too much HIGH voltage. The insides are like one giant HIGH VOLTAGE battery... can SEVERELY shock you OR WORSE !
Take our advice...just "bite the bullet" & get a new monitor.

I would like to 'bite the bullet', but I seriously don't have any money. None. Nada.
