Monitor Problem

I've just got this strange problem. Yesterday after coming home from work, when I turned on my monitor it turns on but nothing was shown on the screen, of which I thought my computer had frozen, so I reset the system and it turns on ok.

However this morning when I woke up the same thing happens again. This time nothing that I did wake this monitor up. The monitor did go to "power save" mode when I unplug the cable. And I have tried another monitor just to make sure that it's not my PC that's causing the problem (and it works fine).

Can anyone help me with this?
The monitor is a Viewsonic CRT (model PF 790).

Usually that means the monitor has powered down to save energy. It could also be that your hard disk might have powered down too. Check your power management to see if your harddisk powers down or not

Ok ... so far here's what I know ... the monitor seems to power up properly when I turn it on ... but the thing is that there is no image displayed on the screen at all. Not even the OSD adjustment shows up.

The only thing that will really turn on the display is a soft restart of the machine. Either a ctrl-alt-del command or windows restart, I have tried using my roomate's computer to check, and it's the same result, if the computer is restarted then the monitor will display properly, otherwise it will just show a blank screen.

It looks like the analog connection to the video card could be busted. Check the cable where it connects to the video card to see if there are any pins missing. If there are, that is what is probably it is.

I have checked the connection and cables ... all are fine, I have tried different cables and they all produce the same result. If I turn off the monitor the only way I can get the monitor working properly is if I do a system reboot.

Any possible solution?

ehh cant help you then tung.

I'm sorry but usually all my monitor problems go away with the above steps.

Maybe you can try and download the monitor drivers and reinstall. If that does not help. Here is a BUMP hoping that someone will help you

Viewonic models suffer from this kind of proble. Disconnect the monitor from your CPU. Then switch the monitor on. If it shows the OSD display, then most probably 99.99% your monitor is OK.

1) IF it does, the the problem would most probably lie with your motherboard battery or capacitors. I dont know wheteher you are adept at this, but you could check the CMOS battery voltage, and replace if it is lower than 2.4 volts. In case the caps have blonked, you may need to give your motherboard for repairs.

2) If the OSD does not show up after disconnecting from the CPU, you could try waiting for a couple of days, if it is monsoon in your area. Sometimes these problems disappear without a trace. If there has been no event of humidity, you may have to return your monitor to the Viewsonic Service Bench for repairs.

Let me know
