my monitor is capable of 1280x1024 at 60 hz which i know is pants....but when i put it in this mode...something wierd happens

the desktop itself is enlarged to 1280x1024 as in the wallpaper and taskbar......but the screen still draws it at 1024x768! (when i press setup button on monitor to see res and refresh)

so to view my whole desk top i have t use the mouse to navigate to the parts of my desktop that wont fit on the screen!!!

so i have a 1024x768 area that is displaying the middle of a 1280x1024 image and to see the rest of the image like the corners.....i have to move the mouse around!

try installing specific drivers for your monitor.....
this usually happens when the monitor drivers report that res/refresh is not supported......

sounds like you have a laptop? perhaps a dell?

I have seen this on older machines and usually you'll need controller/motherboard drivers. Try updating the bios also.

Personally I have had a few machine just not work at higher resolutions. You may be screwed.
