Well my 19" Viewsonic PF790 arrived today, but things are not going as well as I hoped. When I first turned the monitor on I have some color/flickering issues and after a minute it shut off. So I looked in the manual and it said that it is likely a power (not enough voltage) problem, so I moved the power cord from the power strip to a different socket. Things were a little better for 4-5 mins then it shut off again. I then grapped by parent's battery bakup and tried it with that. I didn't watch it but when I came back 10 mins later the screen had turned off again (it wasn't the power saving feature because hitting keys and moving mouse wouldn't do anything). Has anyone else had this problem with a monitor before? I'm now going to go try it on other computers and other parts of the house to see if the same problems occour. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Send it back. :)

You shouldn't be having those types of problems on a brand new monitor.

mmm...it mgiht be power management...

i know that my system, as well as many other's, have computers that take an eternal slumber in powr savings mode...

turn off all power savings in windows and bios, also, your monitor might have this feature integrated into it's on-screen menu...disable it...

then check it out...if it still turns off, RMA!

Update,

I have the moniter going on another computer no probs so far. When I first set it up it was going all funky (colors looked really pretty but weren't right and it was jumping around everywhere) but after I degaussed it it did better and after I restarted with the right drivers it is going well. I heard around that sometimes Nvidia drivers can do this so I might change those on the machine upstairs and see what happens. If I get any more trouble its going to be sent back, but that would be a royal pain. I already had to wait for FedEx cuase they lost it for a week :). I did get it from Ubid so do I still have the same RMA options since it is refurbished?

Well, after 15 mins the monitor went off again. Few seconds later came back on and was going crazy. I scrambled to the controls and quickly degaussed it. Now works fine. It think it is time to send it back. Oh well.

Well I am talking to myself now but oh well. I sent an email off to UBid, we'll see what happens. Anyone have any comments/problems dealing with their RMA before?

new or refurb?

if it's refurb, don't expect too much.
the best solution is to let the credit card company eats it, did you use amex blue or citi click?

Well, when I looked on the packaging slip I saw that it had a 90 day Viewsonic warrenty. After a year of holding on the phone I got an RMA number and an address. Its good that it will get fixed but I guess I will have to pay to ship a 50lbs monitor again. Is there any way I can get a refund for the shipping?
