Monitor Power Question

Currently, I have a 24" westinghouse monitor with hdmi input that won't power down when windows tells it to, it just goes to a blue screen awaiting input. I was thinking about getting a surge protector with a remote control so I could turn it off that way, but I was wondering, would that possibly cause any damage to the monitor, or is it ok?

what is wrong with the power button on the unit? Seems to be easier than grabbing a remote to kill a surge protector.

My Dell monitor sometimes doesn't want to go into standby, so I just hit the power button...done.

Well I use it as a TV also, so if I'm in bed watching tv and I don't feel like getting up it'd be nice to have a remote way to turn it off. As long as it wouldn't damage the monitor I think it'd be the best bet for what I want. I'm fine turning the power off under normal circumstances like just walking away or doing something else. I guess I'll just stick with that.
