Monitor poll: Higher res/lower refresh or vice versa?

I'm just sitting here bored messing with the resolution and refresh rates for my display. I usually use 1600x1200@85 (even though the monitor can do 92, I can't get anything higher than 85), but now I'm at 1920x1440@75. I don't know if I like it.

So which would you have? A higher resolution with a lower refresh rate, or a lower resolution with a higher refresh rate.

I wish they'd make a card and monitor that could do 2048x1536@240Hz. That would rock.

Not sure what is defined as "lower". But I'm rather happy at 1280x1024@85hz

The higher my refresh rate, the longer I can sit hear and nef without my eyes getting tired. I prefer I higher refresh, with a slightly lower resolution. Currently at 1024x768 @ 100Hz.

Hmmm....

That's the exact res/refresh I run on my main monitor, which is currently in storage. Right now at 1152x864@75Hz, b/c that's the highest refresh this old monitor will do at that res. I could get 85Hz if I went down to 1024x868, but that's too big for my eyes.

anything less then 85 makes me go crazy. even at 19" 1600x1200 needs large font setting to be comfortable, any higher res is pointless. maybe u have a 21"

I run 1600x1200 @ 80Hz - it could be a little less flickery, but I can deal with it.

I run 1600 x 1200 @85 myself. I honestly perfer 1600x1280@85 but a few other people who come and use the computer complain that the fonts get a bit too small for them at that resolution. Once the refresh rate is high enough that your eyes are no longer bothered, then it is stupid and pointless to go any higher. In that case, it is much better to just go for the resolution you like rather than try for a high refresh rate that won't affect a thing. So I voted higher resolution with lower refresh rate.

the highest resolution @ no lower than 85Hz. and even then, its not the highest resolution if i have squint to see it.

in my case, 1280x1024



generally, id prefer
15" CRT no higher than 1024x768
17" 1152x???
19" 1280x1024
21" 1600x1200

i'm happy at 1280x1024@85Hz with my 18.1 inch lcd. Only lcd that i know that can do 85Hz at this res

Refresh rate CANNOT be lower than 75Hz for me. I'll run at the highest resolution that allows this.
