Monitor Orientation

I have a external monitor hooked up to my laptop so I can do some hw and assignments at school much more easily, but I have a problem when it comes to orientation. My laptop is directly in front of me and the LCD is on the left of it, however the graphics card sets it up so that it should be sitting on the right of my laptop. Anyway to fix this? Geforce QuadroFX go1400.

Another thing...how do you get large backgrounds to span both monitors?

EDIT: Fixed the first problem by just banging on it...seemed to work 🙂
