I am looking into purchasing a new HDTV or monitor and i had a few questions. The main use will be for games, movies, and maybe occasional work. This screen will replace my current setup as my main "entertainment" screen. I have a 6970 and a 22 inch monitor currently. As far as monitors go I am looking into a 27" or 30" maybe IPS screen or a much larger HDTV. So I am mainly just wondering what are the major differences and disadvantages for each screen. Which has the better quality and which is worth getting. I am also looking to spend 700-1000.

Thanks ahead of time for any help provided. This is my first post but i have already found plenty of answers here!

well a few weeks ago the 30" dell IPS was on sale for about $1000 if you look around and can wait for a bit you might be able to get something similar.

My 37" LG is a IPS screen. I use it as my monitor on my desk with my laptop. I absolutely love it. I just lay back in a recliner with a wireless keyboard/mouse/controller.

Well for movies, the larger the screen the better. Same goes for games usually, but with the 27-30" IPS monitors you have the option to game at 2560x1600/1440. But there if you don't have the power to game smoothly at those resolutions then there's not much reason to get one.

And once you go big it's hard to go smaller even if the picture is sharper (due to smaller pixels).

Are you mainly working or playing? I'd go for big TV if it's mainly entertainment, but if you're like a graphics designer then go for the monitor.

42" TV

For movies, there's just something to sheer size in front of you even if it's filling the same % of your vision as a smaller, closer monitor.
