Monitor not responding

Ok, I have a Samsung 997DF, a computer with a BFG 6800, Asus K8V Se, and Win XP Pro. AFTER I boot into window, get into my desktop, my monitor light just starts blinking. Whatever I press, it doesn't respond. Then if I reboot, I see the windows xp logo, and other things in booting. Please help!!!
Thanks,
Kishan

Try this first:

1) boot into Safe Mode

2) in Safe Mode, go through the motions of setting the resolution and refresh rate to 800 x 600 at 60Hz, then apply the settings

3) restart the computer and see if it makes it to the desktop screen normally. Then set resolution & refresh rate to something that the monitor handles.

ok i'll try that. once again mechbgon comes to the rescue🙂

If there was a little sticker that said 'mechBgon inside' - I'd put it on my system. He helped me through things quite a bit. I'd say stuff like check ot make sure the cords are plugged into the back of your monitor secure, but I'm guessing it's not something that simple..

ok after booting into safe mode, reinstalling the drivers, the monitor stil blinks. what could be the problem? I had this thing running at 1024x768 @ 100Hz for 4-5 months.

i tried reseating the graphics card, then I also took out the RAM and popped that back in as well. When I get to windows, my monitor goes off and the green light starts blinking. When in safe mode, I try to adjust the refresh rate because mechbgon suggested I change it, brings up my monitor as default monitor, and in the "Monitor settings, screen refresh rate" I get, "use hardware default setting." Under adapter type, where my video card should be listed, it says VGA Save, and its using the Non Plug and Play drivers. If you need any info, PM me. Thanks for reading this.

Hmm, well it does sound like the video card is using a refresh rate that the monitor says "uhhh... NO." and turns off.

*thinks a minute, how to get around this* 😕

How about this: start in Safe Mode and uninstall ALL the nVidia video drivers in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, then restart and see if it's able to start up normally (other than lacking drivers). If so, you've found a way out of the trap, at least. You could then try reinstalling your drivers and see if it gets it right this time around.

I did also wonder if the power supply is up to the challenge of a 6800. What brand & model of power supply is it running off of?

Muwahahaha! 😀 ROFL!
