Monitor Noise During Bootup!

I have a ASUS p4p800 deluxe motherboard, a Radeon 9800 (nonpro) and a 19" NEC FP912SB tube with Windows XP Pro. The system is about a year old. During bootup, until I reach the user ID login prompt in Windows XP Pro, the monitor is making screetching/high pitch noises.

It stops when it gets to the login screen. Is this because this is when the monitor driver activates? It is rare that this happens any other time. Help?

Also, I leave my monitor on sleep when I am not using it... will this shorten its life?

Thanks for quick response. Is there anything I can change in BIOS that will prevent this?

Nope. This is controlled by the device drivers for your video card once Windows starts. I have a monitor that clicks on resolution and refresh changes but it's normal, even though it bugs me.
