monitor jitters

my monitor is doing this strange thing, in that every once and a while, the display jitters. its not like a low refresh rate flicker, it is like the display shifts over a pixel and then back very quickly. it is quite irritating. the monitor is not old (1.5 years), but does this just mean my monitor is dying? it is a HP M45/s40.
