Monitor issues? Viewsonic with 2 faint lines across, and goes jiggly when tapped on the side...

A friend of mine bought a Viewsonic monitor from Best Buy. She mentioned it's a Perfect Flat Screen, but that's all I know about model number etc.

She ICQ'd me tonight and was asking if it's normal to see 2 faint lines running about a 1/3 of the way from the top of the screen and a 1/3 of the way up from the bottom.

I said I knew Sony Trinitrons used that display technology but was unaware that Viewsonic did.

She also said when she taps the side of the monitor, the whole image "shakes and blurs like when you shake an etch-a-sketch"

Any feedback on if that's normal or not would be appreciated.

She already returned the monitor once....

Thanks

My monitor here does the "etch-a-sketch" thing if you smack it.

As for the faint lines, they're almost certainly the reinforcement wires.

There are no monitor issues with it. The monitor she bought has these as a feature, good or bad, your call. It has an aperture grille, and needs 2 damper wires for a 17"-19" incher and 3 for bigger ones. They are there to stabilize the phospors on the monitor's inner screen. The aperture grilles have better color saturation than other types of monitor.

I choose to embrace my AG lines, on my PF790. ;)

And being as though I've never smacked my monitor, I didn't notice any "jigglies."

Ok, let's test... ***SMACK***

Yep, it goes jiggly.

Lol, thanks Wingznut, :p had to laugh when I read that. I just smacked my monitor hard...and it didn't go all fuzzy..but there was distortion. I try not to do that too often either. Lol

Yes, it does have a degauss option.

However, these aren't issues to "fix". They aren't "problems"... they are "features".

As others have said, your monitor is normal. My Viewsonic PF790, my Mitsubishi 17", and the Mitsubishi's I have at work all do those things. Don't sweat it.

I hit my trinitron on the side and it jiggled in the same manner as the others have described here. Then I took a baseball bat and whacked it real hard and now it doesn't jiggle anymore.

i can see this thread creating a lawsuit :) or at least on the news

BBS leads to destruction of innocent monitors. Monitors everywhere cry abuse, vow to end internet violence.

-my monitor jiggles but only has one damper line, its a baby.
