Monitor installation problems in Win2k

i just reformatted my system (running win2k), and im stuck on the installation of the monitor and video card drivers (i have a dell m780 monitor and radeon le). the instructions on the drivers for the monitor say to do the following:

go to display, advanced, yadda yadda yadda, go to the monitor tab of the advanced section, and click on properties. however, the monitor listed on this tab is "Default Monitor," and the properties button is greyed out. i also can't install my video card drivers because i am told the drivers are incompatible with my current display adapter. can anyone help here? ive reformatted a few times running win2k, and i havent had this problem before.
