Sorry mods if this is in the wrong section but after returning here today after a long absence there doesn't seem to be a category for Monitors/Displays. Mind you I'm getting old so if there is please move the thread.

Anyway, hi all. I have not been on here for ever such a long time but hope those that remember me, I hope you're all well.

Problem.

In my infinite wisdom I've done what I said I would never do and that was buy hardware without looking on AnandTech first, albeit I don't think you have reviewed this monitor anyway. So, having made the mistake I need some assistance.

I've had a Sony SPD P234B for a number of years and it has been superb. Unfortunately it is giving up on me and the screen is starting to fail.

So, I bit the bullet and rather than spend £1,800 on another monitor I bought a cheap one whilst I get some money together in the future. I say cheap, monitor prices have come down significantly over the years as panel technology has changed. Anyway I digress.

I have a HannG HG281. It's a 28" monitor with a reasonable spec (well I thought so) but I cannot get the colours right, particularly greys.

All the greys have a pinkish tinge to them and has hoping that you knowledgeable fellows could lead me through a few step to improve it.

I accept I may have bought a pig, pardon the expression but I may not have as I've forgotten how to do all this technology tweaking in my later years.

I'm a web developer by trade so it's important I can see the right colours!!

Doh,

Photoshop, which I use a lot was using the profile that was installed with the monitor. Changing it to the right profile has helped significantly, particularly in PS.

Guess I'm getting impatient as well as older!!!
 
I'm assuming you are using the DVI to HDMI converter. If not, VGA is probably part of the problem.

You also might want to change the color temperature, you may get better calibration.

Yes I am. I thought I'd dropped another as there was no DVI connector! Then realised the cable included was DVI to HDMI.

I have messed with Colour Temperature to no avail. The screen seems to be getting better albeit very bright. A little more tweaking may get me some of the way there, but ultimately a 28" monitor for £280 isn't going to be brilliant is it even though I should learn not to listen to reviews by the selling agent!. 🙁
