Monitor has been scratched

My NEC MultiSync FP series screen has been very lightly scratched. I think its only the coating, but when viewing the scratch with a white background, the scratched area just shows red, blue, and white colors.

Is there anyway to get rid of this scratch, short of getting a new monitor?

Thanks.

even though im about to make myself look like a complete idiot with that suggestion, i'll try it anyway...

if that was a joke, NOW is a good time to stop me

I dunno about toothpaste....I think you'd at least want something a bit more translucant.

There ARE products for fixing scratches, they are kind of like a wax. Nothing will bring it back to being perfect.

well the scratch is still visible, but to a much lesser extent, so i guess i can say that it worked (as well as my monitor smelling like toothpaste

Go to a local auto store and find a polish for removing small scratches. I found a bottle of Novus scratch remover from a Sony rep but I don't think the product is available at retail stores though.

If you want Novus scratch remover go to the Novus auto windshield repair place or give them a call and let them deliver. They are everywhere.
