I've had the problem a couple times. Easiest solution is to test the monitor cable with a multimeter to make sure it's not screwed up (almost always is). If it's just a color cast and not a funky picture problem, it has to be one of the first 3 pins (probably #3, which I think is b) or (less likely) one of the center ground returns. If it's internally connected to the monitor, just unscrew the case, disconnect the cable and insert a small pin into the various parts of the female connector to test for continuity.
Don't bother with a repair shop. They'll ream you, and realistically, if it isn't the cable or a solderable connector, it isn't worth fixing. Go to home depot or radioshack and buy a cheapo multimeter and you should have no problem diagnosing the problem. BTW, if it is the cable, just contact the MFG and buy a cheapo replacement (usually around $10), it's a lot easier than soldering on connectors (i know from experience).
