monitor goes yellow tint

Hello all,

My 21 inch flatscreen Dell-Sony Trinitron has gone crazy. It has a yellow tint to it (NOT related to pollen). Here is a pic of what I mean:

picture of monitor

it will only correct itself when switching resolutions and stay fine for about 10 to 15 seconds. Then it will go back to yellow. I'm guessing a wire is loose somewhere or something like that. It is NOT the video card, i've used it on 3 machines and it does the same thing. It COULD be the cable, but I doubt it (because the cable works fine with another monitor), however if anyone has seen this sort of thing before and knows how to fix it let me know. It has no warranty so I might just take the plastic cover (not the metal one acutally protecting the main insides) off and see if there is anything noticeable. If so, I'll take additional pics. Thanks in advance. If you have any ideas on how much it should cost to get fixed, I would like to know that as well. I'm also a member with the username cheerwhiner, but I cannot for the life of me remember that password and I no longer have the email account that was registered under either. I'm also posting this on 2 other tech forum sites so if I find an answer there that works, I'll inform you all if anyone else has a question about it too.

our s3 trio64s and aoc 15" monitors used to do that exact same thing at school. I think it is a bad connection between the monitor and video card.

that is what I am thinking but it does not seem to be the case. I may try it on one more machine if my dad has his laptop here. However, I've used 2 different cables and no difference on the same machine. I hope it is just a loose wire somewhere right inside the case. I am NOT going to fiddle with anything myself, i don't want to get hurt or permantly destroy this thing.

perhaps there is some kind of color film I could put over it to get rid of the yellow before it gets to my eyes? thoughts?

My 19" Samsung was doing that to.. I found it was the cable coming out of the back of the monitor. Jigglin that made it come back to the normal colors. MIght be different problem for you.

Sounds like a gun went out or is going to. Can you adjust the colors in display properties? May get rid of the yellow tint but the colors might be off.

I am not going to do anything with it myself, I am just going to take it to a shop and see what they can do. I have the color all adjusted so it looks the best it can but it still looks crappy. It is worth it to get it fixed to me, it is a very nice monitor, one of the best CRTs I have used. Once I get it fixed, I can sell my other monitor and that should help offset the price of getting this one fixed.

Welcome to the land of a dying monitor. Don't bother getting it fixed, cause something else will be going wrong with it soon. 🙂

this monitor also uses the 5 connectors like fixed frequency monitors, I may get an adapter cable and see if I can run it with that instead= hopefully the frequency is not fixed on that input though, I'm about to run to the store and see!! GG

Hmm, a BNC cable? Perhaps your cable has gone bad. Oh, nevermind, you said you tried multiple ones. 🙁

I once had a monitor that done that.
It was caused by dust in it.
Pull the back cover off and blow it out mabe fix your problem.

damn I could not get a bnc to vga cable yesterday. Bestbuy used to sell them but alas no longer. I'm not going to try that because when there is NOTHING hooked up to it, the monitor retains the yellow tint on its own test screen.

My roommate and I both use BNC cables, I was going to recommend them but I read your post about the test screen...it does indeed sound like the monitor is going. Best of luck getting it fully repaired.

I'm not going to rule out using BNC on it. My plan of attack is now to take it to a shop nearby that has gotten good remarks and see what the deal is. It will cost $25 for them to look at it and determine the problem, and if I want to get it fixed that $25 will go towards the cost to do so. Either way I'll spend $25 just to see, its worth it to me.

This post is a bump. also if anyone wants to mention anything, let me know, I can't do anything with the monitor until Thursday night and take it somewhere on Friday morning.

I had that happen before. Jiggling the cable didn't work. I had to take out the video card, dust it off, and reseat it to get the colors right.

I had the same problem... It's nothing but mthe VGA cable pins. You might have messed up one of the connector pins of the VGA cable coming out from computer to the monitor. They are hard to correct with a plier. You can try that. Otherwise get a new VGA cable.

(Each pin is responsible for certain colors ... if any of those goes bad, that color is missing in the display, and rest of the colors give the display a funky ting ... say yellow)

it was not the cable, i tried several. the monitor is not in my possesion right now, it is at the shop. i am anxious the hear wtf it is!

This is the same problem with my monitor (Viewsonic PT813) but in a different color. It lost the BLUE color and totally changed the picture. I still havn't gotten any time to bring the huge monitor to a shop.

Tell us how much it cost so that I could decide to repair or scrap mine.
