Monitor flickers

Hey,

I have a Samsung 900NF, connected to a Radeon 9700 Pro, normally at 1600 x 1200. Recently, the monitor began to show a slight flicker at 85hz. I replaced the 3.7Cats with 3.10Cats, and problem remains. If I reduce the refresh rate 75hz, most of the problem goes away, and if I drop it to 60, its gone (but 16 x12 at 60hz hurts the eyes). So what could be the problem. I do have a number of items attached to the power strip (including another power strip), but this problem began before I introduced an additional strip. Any thoughts?

do you have the monitor cables going through a switch box or a pass-through card on your box (hardware dvd or tv tuner)?

Are you sure its actually at 85Hz when you set it there?

See what its actually riunning in the "displays" tab of the advanced display properties.

I do not have the monitor cables running through a switch-box, and the refresh rate was definitely set 85hz. I am sure of this. Should DDC be turned off? I don't think this would be a problem either way, but you never know...

Have you checked your connections? I assume that since you know how to post that you would check the simple stuff already. You could also check your vid card make sure it's seated well. What about your psu? Do you have enough juice to power all your stuff? Is your monitor getting enough juice? Do you have any flourescent fixtures nearby?

Just some simple checks for you. Hope you get it fixed. Otherwise you might consider RMA while it's still under warranty.

Enermax 350watt, so I doubt that would be an issue. I do have flourescent fixtures nearby, so I'll be sure to check that. Maybe I need a better power strip, b/c this one is at full capacity. Thanks for the info.

I will also try using a DVI adapter and see if that helps. I still think i'm getting dirty power.

does it still flicker when anything florescant is (with in sight of the monitor) is turned off ??

The image is still shaky/wavy. Maybe other people have seen this? With all of the lights in the room turned off, the image still shakes. I keep thinking that there must be some off electromagnetic interference, but I can't pinpoint it. Could it be a bad power supply? Everything else on the machine runs just fine, so I lean towards ruling that out. Maybe using a DVI connector might solve the problem? I also added a new surge protector, to no avail. The odd thing is, it started up from out of nowhere. Bad outlet? Any ideas?

Try physically moving the monitor to the center of the room. I've had a couple situations at work where monitors are definitely running 85Hz, both according to Windows and the monitor's own on-screen display, and yet the whole image jiggled around. Turns out it was a power conduit in the walls and moving the monitor was the solution. Hope that helps!

I have a feeling its the outlet in the walls, but relocating the monitor won't be an option for at least a month (when I move to a new apartment).

Then shield it with lead plates.





I'm not suggesting leaving your monitor in the middle of your room... just try it as a troubleshooting step

Hmm...moving the monitor didn't seem to help. Maybe I should use a DVI adapter?
