Hi everyone,

I was wondering if you could help me out, i'm having a huge video/monitor problem but I still cannot fix this problem. Whenever I go into a game such as counter strike or warcraft 3, my monitor flickers and the screen goes blank. I crtl+atl+del and end warcraft3 and everything is fine again. Only when I enter a game, 5 minutes later, the monitor would start flickering and eventually lose display. I just reformatted, updated drivers, installed lastest directx and none of it works. I've played around with the refresh rates...60, 85, 100, i've tried it all and still, the same problem. My roommates monitor is right next to mine and for a moment, i thought his monitor was giving out some type of frequencies that make my monitor go nuts but I shut down his computer and turned off everything and still, as soon as I enter any of these games, the monitor flickers again. I can browse the net, listen to music and chat on aim fine but the problem only occurs during games. Please help! Here's my current setup

p4 2.0ghz
1gig RDRAM
intel D850GB board
NEC multisync 97F monitor
Geforce 4 ti 4200 128mb

I'm so lost, this has never happened before until yesterday. Any tips? Thanks guys

Try you roommates monitor and see if you still have the problem, this way you can determine if the issue is the monitor or your card. I'm leaning toward the later

Are you running your games at a higher resolution than the monitor supports???

Not sure if a monitor will allow this but if so, it could be that your monitor does not like the resolution it is running at, try reducing the resolution to 1024 x 768 or something,it could even be your grahpics card that is faulty when running 3d games (high resolutions).

I would try a different monitor first, and if it doesn't work still, get a new video card. It sounds to me like 2d works fine on the card still, but it can no longer do 3d.

Thanks for the reply and help everyone.

I switched video cards with my roommate last nite and that's definitely the problem. My video card is unable to run 3d games anymore, i'm thinking it's overheating or something. My roommate has a geforce 4 mx 440 and it ran wc3 fine on my comp. Time to get a new card, thanks again for all the help :)
