Monitor Dying?

A friend's HP LCD monitor is showing black dots the size of various coins. They are randomly placed, stationary and ever present. What do you guys think? Leprosy?

No takers, huh. Do you guys think a screen could be damaged and look like this if someone were to abuse it? Like poke it with a finger?

Dead pixels which are not repairable or a bad inverter circuit in the monitor. As for the suspicion that it was caused by figer poking, likely depending on the location of the black dots. If it's mainly in an area where people will likely poke the screen then yes it could be caused by the poking. But if not, then it could be a bad inverter on the monitor. Highly recommend replacement.

Thanks for the reply. We're shopping for a new monitor. A disgruntled teenager is suspected of sabotage. I'm going to take a CRT over there today and then try poking out some pixels on the broken LCD.
