monitor dying? or fixable? maybe video card? crazy flicker problem

I got this 19" Gateway EV910 refurbed off ebay about a year or so ago. It flickers like crazy now. I have it on a 9800pro, which I don't think is the problem since everything runs fine on it. It doesnt seem to flicker @ 60hz, but its possible it just looks so bad @ 60hz I can't tell.... the flickers appear like light bars across the screen... does this mean its dying? any reccomendations on a new monitor if it is dying? any help would be appreciated, thanks

I would bet on a dying monitor. However, here is something else you can check. A friend of mine was having a flicker problem, so he bought a new 19" CRT, and it flickered even worse. Turned out to be the transformer for his printer causing interference. The transformer was built into the middle of the printer's power cord. My friend had been rearranging his cables to tidy them up, and had ended up shifting the transformer closer to his monitor. He simply rerouted his cable again to keep the transformer further away, and no more flicker problem. So check the equipment around your monitor by unplugging (don't just turn them off) one thing at a time to see if the flicker goes away. Like I said, a dying monitor sounds more likely to me, but this would certainly be worth looking into before you go buy a new one.

tried the power thing........ pretty much it now comes in fine then it starts flickering a few mins later, anything else to try? thanks

Find a friend or someone you know that has a proper working monitor, then test it to really make sure it's your monitor and not anything else.

Once, my system didn't want to boot, or booted into Windows but with errors and awful flickering monitor (everytime the mouse moved). Changed to a Lcd panel, similar problems (not flicker though, but screen blanking).

Turned out to be my display card.

Do check all possible causes.
