monitor does not fire up with new board

I just completed a hook up of a biostar A780L3C motherboard with HDD and DVD writer. I'm sure everything is hooked up correctly, the HDD LED cable, power LED and reset, and ON/OFF etc..etc.. all looks good. There is just 1 HDD and 1 DVD writer and no jumpers on the HHD. The problem is, the monitor does not start on boot up. The monitor works on other computers. There are no MB drivers installed and no operating system installed. What would cause the monitor to not fire up?

thanks

Biostar Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 620e 2.6Ghz
Centon 4GB DDR3 1333MHz
Samsung 24X DVDRW SATA
WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA

everything seems to be working OK, except the monitor does not power up when the computer is turned on. The DVDR and WD Drive seems to be working. Just no power to monitor.

It could be the videocard if the monitor turns on no problem(like as if it was on but it just said no signal)... what video card do you have?

Does your mobo have two dvi inputs or VGA ? Maybe you need to try both connections. Either that or you don't have integrated graphics? Can you get into bios ?

I guessed you were probably going to say its plugged into the mobo. Does
Your processor have intel HD graphics? If you dont know just tell me the name of your processor

My lil bro had a similar issue where the monitor was displaying 'no signal'... it ended up being the monitor's input was not setup for DVI. It had choices for what format the input should be, it was set for HDMI, once we highlighted for it to use DVI, it has not had a problem since.

Food for thought...

Yeah I have had the same issue installing a new gpu card. Couldn't get to bios. Had to set monitor settings to dvi.

I tried everything, the monitor does not have DVI / HDMI settings. I tried switching the SATA order between the HDD and the DVDR to #1 and #2, made sure the DDR is in #1 slot. I have no idea why the monitor does not come out of standby mode. I tried 2 different monitors, same thing. Normally I would think that a jumper is missing from the HDD drive to boot in a specific order but that is not necessary with this Sata Western Digital 500GB. Just two drives hooked up, HDD and a DVDR. All connections are OK. Have no idea. thanks for the help, I will find the problem eventually.

So if you are using onboard video, there is no DVI or HDMI output from what I can see. All I see is a VGA output... so are you using a VGA cable going to your monitor? Is the monitor setup to detect a VGA input?

+1

And, don't presume that the system is actually booting just because the fans are turning. Are you hearing any beep codes when you start the system? You ought to hear at least one beep if it is posting.

Out of curiosity, what happens if you remove all the memory modules and try to start the system?

all the fans are spinning, the HDD spins at startup and is working, the DVDR spins and is working, there are no beeps at startup, just the drives and fans spinning. The display does not wake up. It's a standard VGA to VGA plug in.

the monitors are all working fine, 2 I-INC's and a AOC all working via VGA on other computers, its not a problem with the monitors.

Theres a 4-pin JATXPWR2 jack on the MB but theres no 4-pin plug coming from the power supply. The MB has the ATXPWR1 jack that I've plugged in the correct ATX plug from the power supply, the power supply also has 2 other power plugs, one is an 8 pin plug and another is a 6 pin plug. Neither can plug into the 4-pin JATXPWR2 jack on the MB. I suspect that is the problem. ?

Usually there is a 24 pin that goes to the mobo from the power supply and a 4 pin or 8 pin that is usually next to the 24 pin connection. If the pc boots up do you hear the post ?

Your PSU should have a 4 pin connection. At least one of them. If not the 6 pin connectors are usually composed of a 4 + 2 pin that separates. I'm guessing your PSU is the issue because you deff need that 4 pin or 6 pin connected as well as the 24 pin.

yeah it's definately a problem with no power to the 4-pin JATXPWR2 on the MB. I bought this barebones package at tiger direct, has anyone ever bought a barebones package that had non compatible parts? this thermaltake power supply is definately not compatible with the biostar atx MB. Can anyone reccommend a power supply with at least 450W with the ATXPWR1 connection and the 4-pin JATXPWR2 connection? It also must have 2 SATA power connections. thanks.

Any decent powersupply of 600w or more should have all connections you need. For example what was linked above, or go with corsair or antec.
