Monitor dead?

Last night my Sony CPD-G400 quit working. I was in the process of switching from one computer to the other and when I pulled the power cord off the power suppy of the computer I heard a "pop". Thought it might've been the power supply that made the noise but when I hooked the other computer up it didn't display any video. It acted like there was no signal to the monitor (flashing amber light).

I've tried it on 3 different computers plugged into different power sources. Same thing all around. It makes a short "click" and goes green very quick like it normally does right before displaying but then it goes back to flashing amber. Never displays anything on the screen. The thing that really bothers me is I can't even use the monitor adjustment controls to display the onscreen menu. It was manufactured in Feb 2000 so I'm well beyond Sony's weak 1 year warranty. Really sad because even after 4 years of heavy use this thing still had a beautiful sharp display.

Suggestions? Any other troubleshooting ideas on how to bring it back to life? I'm thinking if I can't get it to work I should cut my losses and replace it rather than take it for repair.

Well, unfortunately it does sound like the monitor is dead. :(

I feel your pain. My 19" Viewsonic that I've had since 1999 has started "flickering" and it's just a matter of time. I've been looking for a replacement but the one's I've seen in the stores don't even compare to the color and sharpness of my 5 year old monitor.

Yeah, I'm afraid it's dead also. Hate the thought of replacing such a nice piece of hardware. It's been with me through upgrade after upgrade and performed great up until last night.

Heh, and I know someone's going to mention it so I'll say it first... That's what KVM's are for! ;) :p

I've got one to flip between my main rig and server but I was on the other "station" swapping my GF's computer for my 3rd rig when it happened.

My CPD G400 just died today also. A quick trip to Compusa and I was back and running with a Viewsonic VP171s. I was not ready to jump into the flat pannel scene yet but the untimely death of the G400 forced me into it.
