Monitor care.

I was just wondering if there is anything I should do to better take care of my monitor. It is a CRT, and it set me back $700... so I'm fairly concerned. What about surface cleaning? Are you supposed to use glass cleaner? Will the monitor implode if you spray that on it? I have no idea. God help me.

My monitor has an anti-glare on it and it says your not supposed to use amnonia based cleaner (ie windex) or with some other chemical, i found that the cleaner for glases works good since it doens' thave neither.

Read your manual it should tell you everything you need to know.

The manual for my monitor has about 550 pages... so you'd think it would mention something about cleaning or caring for it, but no. The book is that big because it repeats installation procedures in every language known to man. So then I scoured Dell's website but it doesn't say anything either.

I do know that it has the anti-glare coating on it. Would you tell me the name of that cleaner you found?

You can use any cleaner that specifies for cleaning anti-glare, polarized and notebook screens. I use the kensington screen guardian with tissue, plus i polish with their microfiber lint-free cloth.

heh this always amuses me...worrying about cleaning...I've used windex for over 15years on computer screens and never a problem.

I used Windex on my screen and now it's streaky and splotchy. No amount of recleaning or polishing helps. Anyone know a good fix for this?

I wouldn't use anything with ammonia in it for anti-glare. It damages the coating supposedly. I have all glass screens without anti-glare on them.

As for 1 that is already streaked, no idea dude.

was it the blue stuff or the crappy fragrance crap? The regular blue is the best.

I only use water. Take a cloth (without lint) and go from side to side with it. Water should be able to clean up pretty much anything on your monitor... hopefully. If you use anything with ammonia you will almost certainly mess up the antiglare coating.

I used the regular blue. And it wrecked my monitor.

I've just dusted my monitors for years, but then again I dont smoke in front of them
or touch it with my oily fingers for that matter.
The nicotine from smoking sticks to glass like glue.
It does to the windshield in my car.

so how did your monitor get dirty?

What ever you use spray or dampen the cloth first. Do not spray anything directly on the screen, most are not sealed good enough to keep the liquid from getting behind the screen.
