I think all of us (anandtecher) have lost a good friend, I think the best thing is to write to the corportate office and complaint. Better yet complaint to the BBB (better business bureau)

Well good luck to you Neo in find new job who will appreate your work.

Also I would just let find out that idiot/num skill how actually printed the forum. I guess those people have s^$# for brains.

Maybe I'm wrong but this is no longer a hot deal! Good topic fro Brag and Moan though. Let's move on to the next Hot Deal!

Cool, the hot deal was on a whole list of monitors that are going to be dirt cheap at OM. You have just missed the list because you are new and you are late. For those of us who had followed this thread know what those hot deals are, but since you are rude, I am not sure if anyone is willing to share them with you.

Is there a way to make one big letter/email that we can all attach our names/email addresses to to send to OM corporate to show how upset we all are that they treated NeoV this way? I think that if they saw several hundred names on a single letter that we might get their attention.

Has anyone ever written to a company through www.planetfeedback.com? Maybe this would accomplish the same thing as above.

SinMen,

I'm not being rude - just stating fact. I saw the original list but it's no longer here. The thread is turning into a moan. Until someone relists the "Hot Deal" then there is none. Sorry if the truth hurts. I'm sorry for Neo just like everyone else but as I said before, I suggest we move on and stop moaning.

Cool, you are right, the list might be gone from this thread, but it's still in a lot of people's heart.
Well, actually, let me relist them:-- OM is going to clear out a lot of their older 15-19" monitors in the near future at low low price, go to your nearest OM and see what they have on sale.
Are you happy now?

Holy crap! This thread is spinning out of control.

"Disband the Hot Deals forum"..."cause we have no idea what om and their lawyers may be doing at this very minute"?

Oh yeah, I'm sure the CEO of OM is pounding his conference table and screaming, "I WANT SHIMPI!" like Al Pacino in "Dick Tracy".

All that dusty old discontinued crap isn't worth the trouble of pressing the intercom button to summon his legal goon squad. They fired NeoV, so they have their pound of flesh, in response to complaints from store staff about bargain hunters who came in waving his printouts. OM may very well have done him a favor in the long run. I never met anyone who got rich working for OM, or for that matter, OD or Staples. Retail is the lowest paying employer in every state in America.

Oh, and "complain to the BBB"? When will everyone learn that the BBB HAS NO ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITY OF ANY KIND? The BBB is funded completely by the very businesses that they are chartered to police. To expect them to do anything at all in a labor dispute couldn't be further from reality.

I'm sure we can all agree that we are thankful to NeoV and very sorry to hear that he lost his job. Anyone in a position to help him find a new job would do well to do so.

That said, can we move on now? Oh, and I promise, if we ever find the sleazy, deal-killin', waste-of-space troll who dimed NeoV out, Roger and I will personally chain him to the Buick (with the W-30 455 4-barrel that Roger built with his own two hands) and drag him all the way to the nearest OM with a TFT left in stock.

Rog, I still can't believe I was worried that monster wouldn't smoke the tires <grin>.

I took advantage of lot's of OM deals posted here in '99 and '00. Didn't take advantage of this particular OM deal, although there was a chance I could have gotten in on it.

We must applaud NeoV. It's an outrage what happened. The greedy, whining (expletive deleted) who turned him in deserves the very worst.

What irony. NeoV gets fired from OfficeMax for helping them move dusty old inventory, yet no one seems to get fired from Staples as we continue to practically *rob* them of shiny new merchandise through PM's and coupons!

NeoV, I am very sorry that you lost your job over this. I got in on two of the Palm VII's and am very grateful to you for the tips. I wish you much luck in finding a new job and with the new baby.

And to the morons out there who print out Hot Deals threads and wave them around in front of store employees like they're the latest sales flyer - GET A F***ING CLUE!

This thread just gets more and more interesting.

I like the post about how we should all go out and buy these monitors in NeoV's memory, because he would have wanted it that way.

Come on, guys, he's NOT DEAD. He's clearly a talented guy with a lot of character, so any company with half a brain will hire him. Heck, OM seems to have no brain, and they hired him. So he'll get another job. And I suspect he'll still be with us. Though I wouldn't count on any insider info.

Also, it's not like this was a crusade or holy war or something and we want to make sure his loss was not in vain. We're talking about saving a few bucks on monitors here, with the attendant thrill of getting a deal. Nothing wrong with that, but let's not lose perspective. The guy didn't die, and the the future of the universe is not at stake. At least I don't think it is.

I suppose I'm overblowing these posts asking for the list a bit. People probably just want to get that list, and this seems to be the only way to ask for it without seeming quite crass? Give it up, guys. Those monitors that did actually exist are LONG GONE. At this point every OM has been picked over, in many cases by dozens of people. Think there's still a $149 TFT out there with your name on it? Keep dreaming. I guess if you don't believe me you can go verbally abuse an OM store manager or two...

I've certainly written enough at this point. I'll conclude by saying hang in there, NeoV. The situation probably looks pretty bleak right now, and you might be second guessing this or that. But I suspect that when it's all over you'll be better off--aside from being awake with a new baby all night.

Guys, it gets even better than this. I was in one of the Office Depot's Saturday in Memphis Tennessee, checking on their latest clearance items. After the store clerk had checked through the list, she said that two items came-up in their inventory system, but that the manager would have to get the items out of lock-up. After searching lock-up and telling me they don't have either item, the manager asks me if I got the list of items (SKUs) from Anandtech! I'm thinking, wtf, how does he know about Anandtech? So after replying, "yeah, I visit the site periodically, but have picked up most the item SKUs while searching at other ODs for the Oregon Scientific items", he replies that someone looking for a clearance item posted here, had the manager log into Anandtech to get the SKU when they couldn't find an SKU in their store-stock! This fvcking idiot didn't take a print-out into the store, he (tried to) show the manager he was right by logging into Anandtech on the store's [OD's] computer. The manager bookmarked this site and is now tracking Office Depot deals posted here, so who ever the stupid fvck is in Memphis, you've screwed everyone including yourself, out of ANY future OD deals!!!! How fvcking stupid can you be???? Have you been to Office Max lately????

When checking for these items I have always went out of my way to ensure that I did NOT "reveal my source", nor burdon the store clerk if the store is busy. If someone gets in line behind me at the service desk, I tell the clerk to take care of the customer first. When OD had the DVDs on 50-percent-off clearance, I asked if I could look through their remaining DVDs since they had no idea what they had left. Since they could not allow me in their lock-up room, a store employee called-out each DVD they had while I stood outside the door and compiled a list. After getting the DVDs I wanted, I then generated an inventory list and gave the assistant manager a copy. They were so thrilled to (finally) have an accurate listing of their DVD inventory, that they now hold anything I call-in and tell me what's on clearance everytime I walk into the store! The manager has let me even sit-down with their print-outs of new clearance items before they've even finished marking-down the actual items. This is how you do it guys - if you want excellent service from your local store, you have to do something more than just being a clearance-leach with no morals.

K-squared, which store in Memphis? This sux!!! I just started to get into the OD deals and actually getting to the point I couldn't drive by an OD without having this strong urge to walk the aisles looking for clearance items.
