Monitor: Black screen

Black screen with Windows 10. Custom-built Cyberpower PC with GIGABYTE Z87-HD3 MB. No error messages or cursor. Fans are turning. When I reseat the memory modules (I have 2), the PC comes back, but the next time after reboot, the screen is black again.

I disconnected all the peripherals and connected the monitor to the video port on the MB, but it didn't help.

Please help

Thank you

Did you test the monitor with another system? Something in your monitor could have a temperature dependent failure that only quits after it's been on long enough to overheat.

Good luck. 🙂

Is this a new build, or you're upgrading to Windows 10 existing PC?
Do you have latest BIOS?
Are you running RTM Windows 10 or latest?

Harvey,

I have a blank screen when I turn the PC on in the morning.

It was a new build a year and a half ago, but now it's used. I upgraded to win 10 a month ago and it worked fine until now. I have the latest BIOS.

Did the problem arise when you went to Windows 10? You may want to check the Gigabyte site to get the latest Windows 10 drivers, and the last BIOS.

While only two years old, dust could be a problem, depending on your environment. Give the computer a good dusting, and while you are doing so, take out the memory modules and dust off the slots and the bottom of the modules.

If that doesn't help, try running the memory modules in different slots, and try running one module (stick) at a time.

I've done all of that. I even reverted back to windows 8.1. It works only until I turn the PC off. then it's back tot he black screen. Rebooting doesn't cause a problem.

Did you make sure the screws holding the motherboard on are still secure? And that all available holes on the board are being used?

Same for the power supply connections. Are any of them loose?

"And that all available holes on the board are being used?"

You mean screw holes? Yes, I did all of that.

It seems to me that BIOS has some issues... mine did something similar for a while. Someties gets stuck at startup. Sometimes does not reboot properly from Windows 10. Changing random stuff and saving BIOS settings did the trick.
