Dont go around opening up your old useless tv's and monitors...they can blow up in your face even though their dead and not plugged in. Only a trained electrician and the likes should try this at home.
 
Ya, all CRT's have a high voltage power supply that supplies in excess of 50000 volts, my electronic technology teacher lit a small neon bulb (which usually takes 90V DC to light) just by holding it 2 inches away from the HV power supply. I must warn all of you, take extreme caution.
